The exact steps for equipping an item are Unconfirmed because no source documents them step by step.
Equipment vs Vanity (how to equip vanity)
Equipment is worn for stats. Vanity is for appearance, so you can keep a look without necessarily using that item's stats. Cosmetics give no stats and are meant for Vanity, but the Cosmetics list is not published yet.

Star tiers
Stat-providing gear can have up to 3 stars. Each star increases the item's stat benefits; unstarred gear is usable but has the lowest stat values.
Fandom's changelog says crafted materials can roll stars at Crafting levels 5, 15 and 25. Items that cannot have stars show 0 stars.

Equipment comes from chests, enemy drops, crafting, quests, shops, events and other methods. Blacksmiths in Kamo Village and Mushroom Village handle crafting and gear.
Bael drops the Ebonheart Helmet, Chestplate and Greaves, Imp Mask, Warden Mask and Verdant Arcanist. Per-item drop sources are Unconfirmed unless a table says otherwise.
